I’m Mathias Zagoni, a cinematographer for film and TV. I dive into every project with the aim of discovering a unique visual language and style that perfectly suits the story. My work blends aesthetics, color palettes, and dynamic camera movements to build a world that is both beautiful and incredibly realistic.
From the very beginning, I immerse myself in every detail. whether it’s choosing the perfect locations with the director or selecting the color of the smallest prop. My approach involves crafting continuous, intricate shots that allow the story to unfold in real time, giving actors the freedom to fully inhabit their roles. For me, the camera is another actor in the scene, moving seamlessly through the world we create. Moreover, managing large sets and coordinating crews is part of the process, ensuring that every element is perfectly executed.
I’ve had the privilege of working on several notable drama series, including:
The Girl from Oslo (Season 2 for Netflix): A remarkable project filmed in the stunning landscapes of Greece and amidst the beautiful classic architecture of Athens.
Jerusalem: A gripping thriller set in the ancient city, utilizing its claustrophobic atmosphere to enhance the narrative. This series was nominated for Best Series at Series Mania Festival.
My portfolio extends to feature films and short films, many of which have been honored at prestigious film festivals worldwide, including Energa CAMERIMAGE International Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, Mar del Plata International Film Festival and many more. Additionally, I’ve also had the pleasure of collaborating with renowned artists, shooting music videos for Dudu Tassa, Berry Sakharof, Eliana Tidhar, Matricide and more.
Recognition for my work includes:
A nomination for Best Cinematography in Series by the Israeli Film Academy for the TV series “Exceptional”.
Two nominations for Best Cinematography in Feature Film for the independent movie “Fuck You Jessica Blair” by the Milan International Film Festival and the European International Film Festival.
Every frame I capture is a testament to my dedication to the art of cinematography, blending technical skill with creative vision to bring stories to life. My journey is driven by a relentless pursuit of creation and a deep love for the visual medium.
