The Obey music video for Matricide delves into the themes of conformity and blind obedience in a dark and surrealistic world. Shot in an unrecognizable and “endless” place, the video portrays a society where everyone looks and acts the same, blindly following their leader. The goal was to create an unsettling and unnerving atmosphere that keeps viewers on edge.

To achieve this, the extras in the video were dressed in identical clothes and masks handmade by Ran Eliahou, the lead singer of Matricide. This created a sense of uniformity and anonymity among the characters, adding to the eerie feeling of the world. The cinematography, lighting, and art direction were all geared towards making the world seem unpleasant and disturbing. The lighting was dim and moody, and the shots were framed in a way that made the characters appear trapped and claustrophobic.

Overall, the Obey music video for Matricide showcases how cinematography can effectively convey complex and unsettling themes. Through its use of lighting, art direction, and camera work, the video creates a fascinating yet disturbing world that captivates the audience’s attention.
